Last Week
We had a great time having you all over to our home on Wednesday night. The fun time together was a foretaste of what Martha Marie and I look forward to having a great time together with you all this summer as we will intentionally plan to make fun just as much a part of spirituality as everything else we do this summer. Being a Christian is all about living life to through our actions in worship and through fun. If being a Christian wasn't fun, thrilling, challenging, and exciting, I wouldn't want anything to do with it.
We had a successful turnout at our Spaghetti Fundraiser and Servant Auction after church on Sunday. We raised $1625! Thanks to all the students, sponsors, and parents that were involved!
We just had our first Sunday night @ . We talked about decisions and our world view on alcohol. Remember some of these items as you think about your worldview on different issues this week as we may look at other issues in the next couple weeks:
Attitudes lead to decisions (or choices). Choices lead to actions. Actions lead to habits and consequences. Habits lead to life direction and consequences lead to change.
Actions
Addiction (Caffeine, Drugs, Video Games, Internet, Working Out)
Adultery and Living Together
Being Mouthy (Back Talking, Cussing, Making Fun of someone)
Cheating and Lying
Dancing
Dating
Drugs (Alcohol, Smoking and Tobacco)
Gluttony
Movies and Music
Sabbath (Sports, Working, Eating Out, Buying)
Speeding
Questions
- Is it a sin to… ___________________?
- If we habitually do this, will we be able to live life to the maXX?
- Are we in danger of hell fire when we commit this action?
- Is there ever an exception for this choice or action?
- What consequences come of this action?
- What does the Bible have to say about this action?
Alcohol
- Beer is mentioned in the Bible 11 times as an alcoholic beverage
- Wine is mention 234 times
- Jesus drank wine, but never got drunk off of it. The wine he drank may or may not have been fermented.
- Others may have gotten drunk in the Bible and when they did they had sinned.
- Wine was primarily used to purify water, but at times was even used in worship. Some churches use wine in their communion just as Christ had at the last supper. It was also used as medicine for relief of pain. It was also used to heal stomach aches.
- Wine and alcohol have since been used primarily for pleasure and have led to debauchery.
- The Wesleyan Church (not just our church, but the denomination) suggests total abstinence to alcohol because nothing should have control over our minds and bodies as drunkenness makes us lose complete control of ourselves.
- Ephesians 5:18 - Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.
- 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 - Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.
- Since we are to obey the laws of the land, anyone who drinks under the age of 21 sins.
- Uncle Eddie suggests to stay away from alcohol completely!
