Life Conversations: Living Legends

There are people all around you who are living legends. They allowed Jesus to “own their house” a long time ago and are great examples of faith in action. God has been helping them accomplish the purpose of their lives for some time now. They are definitely worth talking to.

A few years ago, I was serving in a church where a godly older man lived. This man was in his nineties when it was discovered he had a tumor on his brain. He decided not to bother with surgery and let the tumor run its course. This man had been a farmer all his life, raised a family, and served Jesus faithfully for a great number of years. As he went about his business, he was always telling people about Jesus every chance he could.

When he was diagnosed with the brain tumor, I decided to go to his house a few times and do devotions with him. As the tumor grew, he had a more difficult time talking and reading. I want you to know, those times of reading and praying together are still some of the coolest times I recall of my time at that church. He had a wealth of life lived for Jesus. He shared a part of his life with me in those devotional times. Stories of God looking after him, stories about things God had allowed him to do. I came away convinced that I need to spend more time with more people like him.

When he died, the impact he had was obvious. Many times funerals are attended by only a few family members and some close friends. There were hundreds of people who walked past this man's casket and talked with the family about how much he had impacted their lives.

Those kinds of people are in your backyard.

Invest some of your time in older Christians you know. They will be golden opportunities to see lives lived for Jesus.

You may want to ask them some questions about things in their lives. Be prepared. They'll give you the good with the bad, but you'll walk away a much richer person.
